Step 2: Update the CSV File

Open the exported CSV file using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets or another spreadsheet application.

The CSV file contains the following columns:

Column Description Editable

Pages Included in the CSV Export

The exported CSV includes pages that are currently available on the website and can have SEO meta tags assigned to them.

For classification or term pages, the system applies the following status rules:

Status Has a web page Included in Export Reason
Active Yes Yes The page is active and available on the website.
Active No No Without a web page, there is no URL to which the meta tags can be applied
Hide From New Tagging Yes Yes The page remains live and indexable. This status only prevents the term from being assigned to new products.
Hide From New Tagging No No Without a web page, there is no URL to which the meta tags can be applied.
Totally Inactive Always No No The term is hidden from all areas of the website, and its web page is unavailable.

Summary:
Only classifications with a status of Active or Hide From New Tagging, and with Has a Web Page enabled, are included in the download.

Important Notes

  • Always use a newly exported CSV file as the template for your updates.
  • Do not rename, remove or rearrange the CSV columns.
  • Do not edit the path column.
  • The type and title columns are for reference only. Changes made to them will be ignored during import.
  • If a page listed in the CSV no longer exists, the row will be skipped and reported in the import result.
  • If page_title, description and keywords are all blank in a row, the page's existing SEO meta tags will be removed.
  • Keep a backup copy of the original exported CSV before making changes.
  • After importing, review a few updated pages to confirm that the meta tags were applied correctly.
